Salted chocolate peanut butter banana shake

Frozen banana, cocoa, and peanut butter become a cold, spoonable shake with enough salt to keep the chocolate from tasting flat.

Ingredients

  • 2 frozen bananas, sliced
  • 1 cup whole milk or oat milk
  • 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 3 tablespoons creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup, optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • A pinch of fine salt, plus flaky salt for serving

How to make it

  1. Add the milk, yogurt, peanut butter, cocoa, vanilla, maple syrup, and fine salt to the jar before the frozen banana.
  2. Start on low speed, then increase as the banana begins moving through the blades. Use the tamper if the blender includes one.
  3. Blend just until smooth and thick. Add milk one tablespoon at a time only if the mixture refuses to circulate.
  4. Pour into cold glasses and finish with a small pinch of flaky salt.

Why a thick shake is a better blender test than a thin smoothie

Peanut butter and frozen banana create a dense mixture that does not flow easily. A capable blender keeps folding that mixture back toward the blades without requiring enough added milk to turn the shake watery. Jar shape, tamper access, and low-speed control matter as much as the motor rating.

A jar that keeps frozen banana moving
Useful low-speed control before the mixture loosens
A tamper or safe way to interrupt an air pocket
Enough working capacity for two thick servings
