Electric Kettle Temperature Guide for Tea and Coffee

Use drink instructions and adjustable controls without treating one temperature chart as a universal rule.

Start with the producer's directions

Use the tea package, coffee roaster, brewer recipe, or equipment maker's starting temperature. Delicate green teas often start cooler than black tea, while coffee recipes commonly sit below a full rolling boil.

Exact recommendations vary, so preserve the source's units and range rather than forcing every drink into one preset.

Adjust one variable at a time

If tea tastes harsh or bitter, try cooler water or a shorter steep before changing everything. If coffee tastes thin or sour, adjust grind, time, dose, and temperature deliberately.

Record the setting that works with a specific tea or coffee so the kettle's precision becomes useful.

Account for heat loss

Water cools as it moves into a cold mug, teapot, French press, or pour-over brewer. Preheating the vessel can make the brew temperature more repeatable.

A base display measures at the kettle's sensor, not necessarily inside the drink after pouring.

Use boiling when the job requires it

Some drinks and instant foods specifically call for freshly boiled water. Follow their directions and any public-health guidance relevant to the water source.

Temperature presets are brewing tools, not a substitute for making unsafe water safe.
