Tea technique

Better Green Tea Without Bitterness

Use the tea maker's directions, cooler water, a controlled steep, and one-variable adjustments.

Use a real starting point

Read the tea package or producer's temperature and steep guidance. Select the closest kettle preset or dial setting rather than assuming one number fits every green tea.

Measure the leaf and water so the next cup can be compared fairly.

Control heat loss

Preheat the cup or pot briefly when repeatability matters, then discard that water before adding the measured leaves.

Remember that the temperature at the kettle sensor will drop during transfer.

Change one thing

If the cup is harsh, lower the temperature slightly or shorten the steep. If it is weak, adjust time or leaf dose before pushing every variable at once.

Write down the combination that works for that tea.

Safety note: Pour slowly, keep the lid secure, and let the vessel sit on a stable surface while the tea steeps.
