Descaling

Use visible deposits, changed sound, water hardness, and manufacturer instructions to time descaling.
Empty the kettle and inspect the bottom, walls, seams, sensor area, and filter. White or tan film and loose flakes commonly indicate mineral deposits.
A glass kettle makes buildup obvious; use a light and the opening for an opaque model.
More crackling, longer heat time, or particles in poured water can support the case for descaling, but electrical smells, leaks, and control faults are different problems.
Do not keep cycling a kettle that appears electrically damaged.
Follow the manual's descaler, dilution, heating or soaking, and rinse steps. Record the date and adjust the interval to local water and actual buildup.
Never immerse the powered base or leave descaling solution where someone could drink it.
Safety note: Label and supervise any descaling cycle, keep it away from children, and complete every required rinse before reuse.
