How to Clean and Care for a Food Processor

Clean sharp parts, seams, the work bowl, and motor base safely while protecting fit and finish.

Cuisinart Custom 14-Cup Food Processor

Disassemble with the motor unplugged

Wait for the blade or disc to stop, unplug the processor, and remove parts in the order shown in the manual. Hold sharp accessories by their hub or safe edge.

Do not leave a loose blade hidden in cloudy sink water. Wash it visibly and keep the sharp edge away from hands and other dishes.

Follow part-specific directions

Some removable bowls, lids, pushers, and attachments are dishwasher safe; others have rack or temperature restrictions. The motor base, cord, and plug should not be immersed.

Use a soft cloth or brush for seams and interlocks. Do not defeat or flood safety switches while trying to remove trapped food.

Prevent cross-contamination

Wash food-contact parts with hot soapy water after each food item, especially when moving between raw meat and produce or ready-to-eat food. Clean the counter and any tools used during processing.

Rinse produce under running water before processing. FDA guidance does not recommend soap or commercial produce wash.

Dry and inspect before storage

Let parts dry fully before nesting them, particularly in sealed bowls or accessory cases. Inspect the bowl, lid, spindle, cord, and locking tabs for cracks, warping, or damage.

Replace damaged parts with the correct model-specific component. A part that physically sits in place may still be incompatible with the interlock or operating speed.
