How to Slice and Shred with a Food Processor

Prepare vegetables and cheese for even cuts using the right disc, feed-tube fit, and pusher pressure.

Choose and orient the disc

Confirm whether the disc slices, shreds, or reverses for two sizes. Install the spindle and disc exactly as shown in the manual, with the intended cutting face up.

Handle discs by a safe edge or hub. They can remain sharp even when they do not look like a knife.

Fit the ingredient to the tube

Trim food so it fits without jamming, but use the smallest suitable feed-tube opening to limit tipping. Pack long vegetables upright when the manual recommends it.

Chill soft cheese before shredding so it stays firm. Very hard cheese may be restricted, so check the model's processing guide.

Use the pusher steadily

Start the motor as directed and press with the supplied pusher, not a hand, utensil, or improvised object. Excess force can deform food, produce uneven cuts, or strain the machine.

Some ingredients slice more consistently with light pressure; others need a firmer steady feed. Let the disc do the cutting.

Expect a small unprocessed piece

Most discs leave a thin remnant above the cutting surface. That is normal and safer than forcing the final piece toward a moving blade.

Stop and unplug before removing the lid or disc. Use any leftover nub in stock, a hand-cut garnish, or the next chopped batch.
