What you need

  • 1 can chickpeas, 15 ounces, drained and rinsed
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Method

  1. Preheat the toaster oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit on convection bake or air fry. Pat the chickpeas very dry and remove loose skins if convenient.
  2. Toss with oil and spread on an approved solid pan or in the model-approved basket with a drip tray placed as directed.
  3. Cook 15 minutes, shake or stir carefully, then continue until dry and crisp, 8 to 15 minutes more.
  4. Toss the hot chickpeas with paprika, garlic powder, and salt. Cool before storing so trapped steam does not soften them.

Toaster oven lesson

Seasonings can scorch before wet chickpeas dry, so adding dry spices after roasting preserves their flavor.

Chickpeas crisp more as they cool; stop before they become hard throughout.

Serve

Use over salads and soup or eat as a same-day snack.

If they soften, re-crisp briefly while watching continuously.
